If I’m being honest, I feel like I need a fresh start right now—like I need to hit the reset button on everything. I’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut lately. My motivation has been low, my focus scattered, and even the things I usually enjoy feel heavy. Maybe you’ve been there too. That place where you know in your heart that God is still near, but you just feel… off. Worn out. Disconnected.
But here’s the beautiful truth that lifts me up every single time: God’s mercies are new every single morning. Not once a month. Not once a year. Every. Single. Day. “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
God doesn’t just restore our circumstances—He restores us. Our hope, our joy, our strength, our sense of purpose. And He doesn’t wait until we “get it together.” He meets us right in the middle of our mess and says, “Let’s begin again.
Why We Struggle to Believe It
Sometimes, even though we know God’s mercy is new every morning, we struggle to live like it. And as women, we often carry so many roles—mother, wife, caretaker, worker, planner, nurturer , that it’s easy to feel like we’re constantly falling short in one area or another.
I’ll be honest: I struggle with this myself. If I can’t do something “just right,” I tend to give up and not do it at all. Whether it’s starting a new journal, cleaning out a messy closet, or finishing the to-do list I made with the best intentions, I feel like if it’s not perfect, it’s not good enough. And when I don’t get everything done, I feel guilty. Can anyone else relate?
It’s frustrating, to say the least. We put this pressure on ourselves to do all the things, and to do them well. But that’s not what God is asking of us. He’s not standing over us with a checklist, He’s standing beside us with open arms. He’s not measuring us by our productivity, but by our presence with Him. His heart is after connection, not perfection.
Guilt is a sneaky thing, it makes us feel like we’re not doing enough, being enough, or loving enough. But God’s mercy speaks louder than guilt. It says, “You are already enough because I’ve covered you with grace.” That undone task or messy moment doesn’t define you. His love does.
Living in Daily Mercy
Here’s the beautiful truth I’m learning: I don’t have to earn a fresh start. I just have to receive it. God’s mercy isn’t something I work for, it’s something He freely gives. Every morning, no matter how messy yesterday was, I get to wake up and begin again.
If you’re anything like me, you may need a few simple ways to lean into that truth each day. So here’s some gentle encouragement, no pressure, no perfection, just grace.
1. Start with a breath prayer.
Before your feet even hit the floor, take a moment and whisper something simple like:
“Lord, thank You for this new mercy. Help me walk in it today.”
That one small breath can reset your heart and shift your focus back to Him.
2. Write, even if it’s messy.
Pull out that journal, even if it’s not decorated, even if the handwriting isn’t neat. Just start. Write down your thoughts, your frustrations, your gratitude. It doesn’t have to be polished. God honors the process, not the presentation.
3. Let go of yesterday.
If the to-do list didn’t get done, give yourself permission to release it. There’s no shame in unfinished tasks. God isn’t disappointed in you, He delights in you simply because you are His.
4. Keep His promises in sight.
Stick a verse on your mirror or tuck it in your Bible:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” – Psalm 51:10
Let that verse be your reset button when the guilt or overwhelm creeps back in.
Reflect and Praise
May is such a beautiful reminder that we serve a God of renewal. The flowers bloom, the days stretch a little longer, and the air feels lighter somehow. But more than anything, May whispers this truth to our hearts: Every day is a chance to begin again. Every morning is an invitation to praise, to reset, and to walk forward in grace.
So instead of carrying yesterday’s guilt, what if we carried praise instead?
What if we let our worship be the way we start fresh, not by fixing everything or getting it all right, but by remembering who God is and thanking Him for His mercy? A spiritual fresh start means :
GRACE e-undeserved favor and love ,no matter what yesterday looked like.
MERCY-not getting the punishment we do deserve, and instead recieving His love and kindness.
–SECOND CHANCES- and third and fourth, and however many we need because He is that faithful.
Let this month be your reminder that God’s mercy isn’t seasonal—it’s daily. And praising Him, even in the smallest moments, realigns our hearts and lifts our spirits.
Here’s a scripture to keep close as you reflect and begin each day:
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)
Closing Thoughts + A Prayer for Fresh Starts
Sister, if you’re feeling like you need a reset, you’re not alone. We all have days—or seasons—where the weight is too much and motivation runs low. But remember, you are not behind. You’re right on time for God’s grace.
Let May be the month you choose praise over pressure. Let each morning be a fresh start, not a reminder of what didn’t get done, but a celebration of what God has already done.
I’d love to hear from you— Have you felt like you’re in a rut lately? Do you have a story of how God met you with mercy when you needed it most? Feel free to comment below or share your story. You never know who might need to hear it.
A Short Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your mercy that meets me new every morning. Help me let go of yesterday’s guilt and embrace today with open hands and a hopeful heart. Teach me to praise You in the little moments and lean on You in the hard ones. Remind me that I don’t have to be perfect—I just have to be present with You. Amen.
